This month Mother Goose Time is all about Bees and Butterflies! We’re looking forward to learning about bee homes, types of bees and wasps, types of butterflies, and metamorphosis. Click here to see all the monthly themes for January – August 2016.
Daily Child Projects
“Bees and Butterflies” is jam packed with wonderful craft projects. We’ll be making a butterfly life cycle, assembling a hornets nest, building a home for bees, and crafting a Monarch! A quick pictorial overview of the crafts included in this month is shown below. Follow us on Instagram to see the finished projects š
Calendar and Daily Activities
Making honey, playing the save the butterfly game, and learning about butterfly symmetry are just a few of the fun activities we are looking forward to this month. The included story of the month is “One Busy Bee,” by Chris Lensch. We also have a whole new list of suggested books and outdoor and free play ideas. We’ll be sure to share some of our favorites!
Manipulatives
Each month comes with thematic manipulatives. This month, attribute blocks and garden beads are included. These manipulatives are used in several of the Mother Goose Time activities and we are most looking forward to using them for designing beehives and pretending to feed a hungry bear.
Concepts
We will also be focusing on the following concepts:
- Color ā black
- Shape ā hexagon
- Friendly Bee ā forgive
- Letters ā B, Q, N
- Numbers ā 15 and 16
Music
The month’s musical selections are inspired by children’s folk music. We’ll be listening and dancing to “Bee Body” and “My Little Butterfly.”
Spanish
Mother Goose Time always includes at least one Spanish activity to encourage second language acquisition skills. There are also flash cards available in online member resources that encourage the incorporation of Spanish vocabulary while engaging in the varied daily activities. The coloring sheets, also available online, provide the Spanish word for several additional thematic objects. This month they include bee, butterfly, and flower.
Global Friends
Three different global friends arrive each month that encourage the children to use and more fully understand the world map that Mother Goose Time provided when we first started using the curriculum. Our new global friends are from Brazil, New Zealand, and Qatar. Each friend will introduce the kids to a new cultural element through pictures, games, or storybooks.
Celebration Kit
This month also includes a celebration kit focusing on Earth Day. We’ll be creating an Earth Day snack, playing a save the earth game, and creating some Earth Day inspired art. There is also an Earth Worm Lunch Rhyme and a Dirt, Dirt, Tree game.
We will also be learning about “the Easter Story” with “God Wants Me to Pray,” from Experience God (Christian curriculum add-on) and dancing to the music from our “Dancing With Bees and Butterflies” program from Dance ‘n Beats (dance and fitness program). The toddler is always included thanks to the Little Goose Program (toddler supplement). We hope you’ll join us on our adventures as we learn all about “Bees and Butterflies!”
