Best of R Preschool Academy (Episode 3: March 2016)
Featuring Mother Goose Time โ Discover the Desert
Ever witnessed a full on debate between a two year old and a three year old? It’s intense! Our family is having a blast putting together these Best of R Preschool Academy Episodes. Every week we review the photographs and pick our favorite moments with Mother Goose Time. I am amazed at how well the kids remember all the projects and activities and how strongly they feel about their picks.
Best Craft
Make a cactus out of cornstarch noodles. When you moisten the noodles, they stick together and you can build 3-D sculptures. The toothpicks are spines. The little cup is a pot. The kids were all over this one. My 3 year old did the entire activity on her own. I love when I can just sit back and take the pictures ๐ ……and drink ALL my coffee!

Best Activity
Barrel racing with horse puppets was hilarious. The kids got to pick different items in the yard to be the “barrels.” Then they ran from one item to the other playing follow the leader. Outdoor time. Energy expended. Win!

Best Game
The kids were obsessed with learning about scorpions in the desert. I couldn’t put my shoes on all month without getting a warning to “Watch out for Scorpions.” The blocks featured in this game were also a huge hit and indisputably our favorite manipulative from Mother Goose Time to date. The kids made all kinds of things with them from 3-D flowers to letters in their names. In this game the block manipulatives were used to build towers. Each time the kids spun a color they could add to their tower of the same color. If they landed on the scorpion they lost a block. This was an excellent game for learning colors and building cooperation.
Best Achievement or Milestone
Ladybug has known her colors for what now feels like since birth….lol Owl’s interest in learning colors outside of his favorite, blue is somewhat limited. He rocked this turtle themed color matching activity and really started to show some interest in figuring out the names for more colors.
Best Family Moment
During our day learning about the Sahara Desert, the kids started up their own imaginative play and conversation together. Having two children so close together in age is tough especially when they are so young, but watching them actually start to converse, interact, and play together without any help from me is amazing!
Best Book
Owl’s favorite color is blue. Ladybug is seriously into stories. Both kids love to color. This was a story, featuring the color blue that encouraged them to color. They switched shades of blue each time the story mentioned the word blue. There have been numerous requests to “color a story” again soon.
Best Overall (Most Fun)
Drum Roll please……The kids overall favorite was getting to make “Olive Bread.” A very simple recipe of store bought bread dough, olives, and apricots rocked their world, because THEY MADE IT ALL BY THEMSELVES ๐ They loved the independence of being able to use the knife and assembling the ingredients. They also got a kick out of eating a lunch they had prepared. I started having fantasies about breakfast in bed on Mother’s Day about halfway through ๐
