This month Mother Goose Time is all about Bubbles, Boats, and Floats! We’re looking forward to going down the river, being on the lake, learning all about wonderful water, and playing with soapy water. Click here to see all the monthly themes for January – August 2016. The new themes for 2016-2017 have also just been announced!!! Which ones excite you and your kids most?
Daily Child Projects
“Bubbles, Boats, and Floats” is jam packed with wonderful craft projects. We’ll be making a rainbow, assembling a car wash, building a river, and crafting a beaver puppet! A quick pictorial overview of the crafts included in this month is shown below. Follow us on Instagram to see the finished projects ๐
Calendar and Daily Activities
Puddle jumping, playing sock toss, and learning about bubble science are just a few of the fun activities we are looking forward to this month. The included story of the month is “Rowing Down the River,” by Becky Wiinikainen and illustrated by Kelly Nogoski. We also have a whole new list of suggested books and outdoor and free play ideas. We’ll be sure to share some of our favorites on Facebook!
Manipulatives
Each month comes with thematic manipulatives. This month, boat counters and shape links are included. These manipulatives are used in several of the Mother Goose Time activities and we are most looking forward to using them for using them for “raft math” and making rain patterns.
Concepts
We will also be focusing on the following concepts:
- Color โ purple (Ladybug’s favorite!)
- Shape โ diamond
- Friendship Trait โ responsible
- Pattern – A, B, C
- Letters โ A, D, U
- Sight Words – are, they, where, and down
- Numbers โ 17 and 18
Music
The month’s musical selections are inspired by Latin Children’s Music. We’ll be listening and dancing to “Busy Beaver” and “Alligator Attack.” The first song on the album, “Flow, Water, Flow” already has us moving and grooving. Preschoolers shaking their thang to Latin music? Adorable! ๐ LOL
Spanish
Mother Goose Time always includes at least one Spanish activity to encourage second language acquisition skills. There are also flash cards available in online member resources that encourage the incorporation of Spanish vocabulary while engaging in the varied daily activities. The coloring sheets, also available online, provide the Spanish word for several additional thematic objects. This month they include alligator, duck, and umbrella.
Global Friends
Three different global friends arrive each month that encourage the children to use and more fully understand the world map that Mother Goose Time provided when we first started using the curriculum. Our new global friends are from Australia, Denmark, and the United States. Each friend will introduce the kids to a new cultural element through pictures, games, or storybooks.
Celebration Kit
This month also includes a celebration kit focusing on Mother’s Day. We’ll be creating an Owl craft, playing a Mom’s Love memory game, and using our story pieces to tell the story of “If You Give a Mom a Muffin.” There is also a “play” muffin snack recipe and a Muffin Catapult Toss game.
We will also be learning about “Disciples Go Fishing” with “God Us All-Powerful,” from Experience God (Christian curriculum add-on) and dancing to the music from our “Dancing With Bubbles, Boats, and Floats” program from Dance ‘n Beats (dance and fitness program). The toddler is always included thanks to the Little Goose Program (toddler supplement). We hope you’ll join us on our adventures as we learn all about “Bubbles, Boats, and Floats!”
