Oh my! The candy crafts in this book are adorable. A perfect manual for birthday parties or making a “little something” surprise for your youngster, this book is chock full of delightful and surprisingly simple to make sweet treats. The author uses hard candy, gummy candy, marshmallows, cookies, and cereal to create an array of holiday appropriate and everyday delights. Some of the my absolute favorites are a bowl made entirely out of peppermint, a candy cane heart pendant, marshmallow and gum drop penguins, and a cookie castle cake. Older children – say fifth grade plus will also likely love getting their hands sticky making these crafts.
The materials used in this book are cheap and simple to find. Out of all the ingredients listed, the only one I couldn’t find at my local Kroger was the black Haribo Raspberry Candy used for “Cow on a Mug”. I have a severe love for gingerbread house making and promise you that some of the ingredient lists for those blueprints read like a foreign language menu, so having identifiable and easy to find ingredients was a huge bonus. The only real complaint about the book is that all the materials used in the crafting are junk food, but really the title is “Candy Aisle Crafts,” so there is no way to miss the purpose of the book. This is a great little crafting book that adults and tweens plus will likely love; just don’t eat too much of the finished product 😉
