I’m joining one of my favorite book bloggers, Sheila at The Deliberate Reader, for a second edition of New on the Stack. This book link up gives us a chance to share the new books that have found their way onto our “to be read” shelf. The titles and book images link to my amazon affiliate account.
New On The Stack (vol 2) – Book Link Up Click To Tweet How did I get it: This was a kindle purchase from Amazon.
Why did I get it: This is the monthly selection for MNO Book Club. So far, the main character keeps dying and then the random word snow appears. The writing is good, but the pattern of repetitive death of the main character has me baffled. I haven’t decided if I like this book, yet or not. Kindle says I’m 33% of the way through the book. Anyone out there read this one yet?
The Butterfly and the Violin (A Hidden Masterpiece Novel)
How did I get it: I purchased this during a 99 cent sale from BookBub.
Why did I get it: I signed up to review the second book in this series by Kristy Cambron, A Sparrow in Terezin (A Hidden Masterpiece Novel Book 2), for Litfuse Publicity Group. I hate starting a series in the middle, so I’m tackling the first book prior to reviewing the second. Look for the review of A Sparrow in Terezin on 4-12-2015 at MNO Book Club.
How did I get it: I also received this book for review from Litfuse Publicity Group.
Why did I get it: This is the story of a mother of three who was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor and was in grave danger of death. I believe strongly in the power of prayer and the importance of faith even in our darkest periods. This excerpt from Kirkus Reviews, “Christian readers will find in these pages a powerful testament to the power of faith in dark times, and even agnostics will be uplifted by the joie de vivre of this remarkable woman,” convinced me into taking this review.
Easter Stories: Classic Tales for the Holy Season
How did I get it: This was offered to me for review by FlyBy Promotions.
Why did I get it: I’m always looking for stories that fit with the liturgical year that can become family holiday traditions. This book is a collection of classic tales for the holy season by notable authors such as C.S. Lewis, Leo Tolstoy, and Oscar Wilde. Be on the look out for a giveaway available starting March 23rd!
How did I get it: I caved and totally bought this using my Amazon Prime!
Why did I get it: I love The Artful Parent and have her first book. I read a ton of glowing reviews about the book and entered a ridiculous number of giveaways trying to win a copy. A couple of the bloggers conducting the reviews told me that some of the crafts might be suitable even for my toddlers, affectionately known around the blog as the fledglings. I’ll keep you posted…….
How did I get it: This book came from my husband – it magically appeared on my kindle.
Why did I get it: My husband gifted me with this book after a particularly challenging day, when therapeutic laughter was a must! Fair warning: I have read about three of the stories; they are laugh out loud hilarious, but definitely contain multiple incidents of foul language and self depreciating humor – so proceed with caution if that is not your cup of tea!
On Becoming a Writer: What Every Blogger Needs to Know
How did I get it: I ordered this from Amazon for my kindle.
Why did I get it: This was recommended by Shelia and I’m interested in doing a little more real writing on my blog. Fingers crossed this gives me some inspiration.
How To Blog For Profit: Without Selling Your Soul
How did I get it: I borrowed this one from a friend, who ironically doesn’t blog.
Why did I get it: I’m curious. I’m in the initial phases of figuring out what exactly I want this blog to become and thought it might be interesting to get some insight from a professional who does it for a living. This one is also a Sheila recommended read (4 stars).
Wanna see what else the cool kids are reading??? Or better, yet, share some new books of your own?
Check out the rest of the link up at The Deliberate Reader!
Thanks for linking up again!
I borrowed Life After Life, but returned it unread. It was too soon after my brother’s death and I realized I just couldn’t face reading it.. I haven’t decided if I’m going to give it a real try someday.
I hope you like the writing and blogging books!

Glad to join – it’s a fun link up. One of the ladies in our book club just lost her father and I’m saying extra prayers that the book does not cause her grief. The books were all selected a year ago. There are so many wonderful books out there to read, but some clearly need to be read during the right season of life. My condolences on your loss of a loved one.
I am curious about the Halo Found Hope. I like those types of stories, especially when they are true. I am also interested in the On Becoming a Writer. I’m always worried about how my reviews read to other people.

Hi Stacie! Thanks for visiting 🙂 I just got Halo Found Hope in the mail and have only read the introduction, but so far I am very pleasantly surprised by both the quality of the writing and the story line. It’s always a risk accepting a review like this, so I’m relieved and delighted! Sheila said that On Becoming a Writer was a good choice for bloggers specifically, so I’m excited to see what recommendations she has – looks like she is actually an English teacher 🙂
