We had a very easygoing week. We spent a ton of time outdoors including the ever cooling weather and watched the contractors turn our fixer upper into a gorgeous house. It’s starting to look so nice, I’m sure I’m not going to want to leave when the time comes. It looks especially beautiful lit up at night and I’m excited to see it outfitted with Christmas lights.
Our sweet Guppy turned 10 months old. I take a picture of the kids with the “Birthday Bear” every month of their first year, but kept forgetting this one. I finally snagged one on the way to swim class. So, he’s in a bathing suit. Totally counts! LOL
He is the sweetest, easiest going baby!
He also loves bath time! Look at those gorgeous eyes 🙂 My heart!
Must Do’s Every Day
There are three main things we ALWAYS accomplish every day even when things are busy or off kilter.
- Get Outside
We also pray, eat, and take care of our bodies, our house, and our pets.
Anything else is purely extra 🙂
We finished reading The Big Friendly Giant by Roald Dahl this week!
We have read one chapter of our next selection, The Mouse and the Motorcycle, by Beverly Clearly.
My daughter has been very into biographies recently and this one by Jennifer Berne about Albert Einstein is great! On the final pages, the author leaves notes of interest for parents about Einstein’s life including tidbits about his thought experiments, playfulness and laughter, his roll in discoveries that led to the atomic bomb (note: he was not a fan of weaponry!), and a resource list for “big books” about Einstein. The author reports that she read over 50 books about Einstein and that the following 5 were her favorites! I’m listing them here for my benefit as much as yours!
- Albert Einstein: A Biography
- Creator and Rebel: Albert Einstein
- Einstein: His Life and Universe
- Subtle is the Lord: The Science and the Life of Albert Einstein
- Albert Einstein: Philosopher-Scientist
We also read a ton of books from Bill Peet this week.
Do you have a favorite book written by Bill Peet?
We had a wonderful time making these nature bracelets using “inside out” masking tape!
Last week we started looking for mini-beasts as part of our nature program. Ladybug is on a mission now!
The game of the week has been to build taller and taller structures out of blocks. I’m wondering if it’s time to break out Jenga!
Messy Monday Morning
All About Reading
Ladybug completed the letter “F” in the All About Reading program. I was doing this with both older kids, but Owl isn’t quite ready yet, so we did this during quiet time on Monday.
Poetry Tea Time
We reviewed “Ooey Gooey” this week. It’s the first poem listed in this fun book I got called Linguistic Development through Poetry Memorization from the Institute for Excellence in Writing.
Ladybug also did a fabulous recitation and interpretative dance for this selection 🙂 I’m new to you tube uploads, so let me know it’s not working!
What’s Cooking With Kids
Owl drank Mango Lassi. All of it! LOL
We managed to sneak in a little “sink or float” experiment from our science kit this week. Owl took the cheerio/raisin comparison pretty seriously 🙂
Mother Goose Time
We got a new month of Mother Goose Time this week! We are going to learn about being Down on the Farm!
The kids were fast fans of this rhyme. We added the eggs and chicks for extra fun!
Owl is counting backwards from five 🙂 Thanks Mother Goose Time!
Owl had his very first whole waffle this past weekend. Even a little independence is a huge deal when you’re this little.
This week, in addition to all the big things I have to be thankful for, I am also grateful for
- PBS. If I have to be up late at night with a teething baby, at least I can learn something 🙂
- My virtual book club. I look forward to discussing The Good Girl on Monday night!
- Forward progress with our house; it’s really starting to look nice!
