The theme for Poppins Book Nook this month is “Books that were turned into Movies”. We don’t watch a ton of movies in our house, but we do read A Lot! This past month as part of our preschool home school program with Mother Goose Time we have been reviewing Aesop’s Fables. One of Ladybug’s favorites has been “The Boy and the Frogs.” I love helping her learn how important it is to pay attention to how others are feeling even when you are having fun. For instance, when you throw blocks at your brother it might be fun, but it can hurt him. ๐ Gotta love having siblings ๐ Here is a version of “The Boys and the Frogs” we found on You Tube.

Our first simple activity was to create “frogs” using numbers 1-5 with pre-cut figures. We added sticky eyes (2 eyes per frog). Then we added rhinestone stickers. The number of stickers added matched the number (i.e., 1 sticker for number 1, 2 stickers for number 2, etc.).
We played a simple, but fun game with a plastic flip frog and colored lily pad game board. Each time the kids were able to successfully able to maneuver the frog onto a lily pad, they earned a lily pad of the corresponding color. This was a great fine motor experience and an excellent chance to practice color recognition and discuss how frogs move. Both kids loved this game and I loved watching them work together to earn cards!
Finally, we created a simple and fun sensory bin using blue glass gems, foam lily pads, and plastic frogs. The packs of frogs came with several that matched in color and pattern and Ladybug tried to get all the similar frogs onto matching lily pads. Owl was more impressed with making a splash in the water using the glass gems.
