Each month Experience God, a Christian Preschool Program from Mother Goose Time sends us story cards and activities to help further understand a bible story. This month we focused on The Story of the Tower of Babel. The crafts that came with this month’s selection were a huge hit with the kids and as an ambassador for Mother Goose Time I’m thrilled to be able to share 3 of those crafts with you in this post!
1. Tower Shaker
Supplies
- core/paper towel or toilet paper roll
- 2 core caps
- paper strips
- sand or beans (we used peanuts)
- glue
- scissors
Ask
What types of towers are near your home?
Instructions
Secure the shaker bottom and add a small amount of sand or beans or peanuts, etc. to the empty shaker. Secure the shaker top.
Cut the strips of paper into small bricks and glue them onto the shaker to cover the tower.
Use the shaker to create rhythms and take turns trying to imitate different patterns.
2. People of the World
Supplies
- world map
- puppets
- craft sticks
- markers or crayons
- tape
- scissors
Ask
How are people around the world similar? Different?
Instructions
Invite children to cut out the puppets. Have them color the blank puppet to represent themselves.
Tape them to the craft sticks.
Use the World Map poster as a backdrop for a puppet show.
Make up stories about the children of the world. How did they meet? How will they celebrate that God created each of them specially?
3. Tower Construction
Supplies
- starch noodles
- bowl of water
Ask
What could be difficult about building a tower?
Instructions
Give each child a handful of cornstarch noodles.
Invite the kids to try to stack them. (They will tumble down).
Set out a bowl of water and explain that Jesus is the living water. He washes us clean and provides a way to God.
Demonstrate how to lightly wet the end of a starch noodle and stick it to another noodle. Repeat and build a tower.
Note: If using this exercise with very young children, consider a damp paper towel instead of a small bowl of water. It is easy to overly wet the noodles, which will result in them crumbling and/or dissolving.
These activities and materials were graciously supplied to my family by our Experience God Curriculum available through Mother Goose Time. Each month, the Child Craft and Family Activity Pack provides four fabulous crafts and several family activities for us to enjoy.
