“I really want you to know that everything that is important to you is important to God. He cares about your small battles as much as the huge ones. You are a precious woman who gets out of balance sometimes like all the other women of the world. He wants to help you find your way.”

Pennington is relatable and funny.
Lisa Pennington is a homeschooling Mom of nine who lives on a hobby farm and authors a blog.
This is her second book, completed while raising children. “Mama Needs a Do-Over” was her first.
She knows what it means to be out of balance, to have things go completely astray, and struggle in desperation to regain your footing.
She isn’t perfect, which has led to various life events she describes throughout the book; several of them so funny you might just laugh out loud or share them with your husband the way I did.
Pennington offers friendly advice.
The author reminds me of a dear friend and mom to five young sons, who once told me that while raising small children it’s especially important to listen at mass. Because if you are wrangling small kids and still manage to hear something the priest says, God really wanted to make sure you hear that message.
Lisa Pennington speaks about finding balance in many areas of life: marriage, motherhood, friends, money, home, moods, etc. Her chapters that truly speak to you are probably the ones you are meant to hear and where you are out of balance.
Tightropes and Teeter-totters covers so many areas of potential unbalance, no one topic is an in depth study. Luckily, Pennington cites a number of useful anecdotes and paraphrasing from books that may provide further guidance. She also gives an assignment at the end of each chapter; don’t worry it’s just a beginning step.
Pennington focuses on “BALANCE.”
The introduction of the book moves a bit slow as Pennington introduces BALANCE as an acronym that can help you make positive changes in your life.
Fortunately, her personal stories are entertaining and relevant, her discussion passionate as she conveys a true desire to empower you to build a relationship with God and find balance in your life.
The result is that while you walk away with more to work to do to achieve balance, you are often much clearer on what areas of your life need the most help and focus.
Pennington offers encouragement and understanding.
She also gives you a place to start.
For me, those places are containing the mess overtaking my home, retaining the joy that’s possible and wonderful in parenting, and continuing the journey to become a wife that focuses on what I can do in the marriage, rather than focusing on all the things I think my husband should be doing. So, yeah, it was a helpful book.
Tightropes and Teeter-Totters might just be the jumpstart you need to start picking up the pieces in a broken part of your life.
What areas of your life could use a little more balance?
***I did this review for Litfuse Publicity in exchange for a copy of the book. All opinions and experiences expressed are my own. Litfuse is one of my favorite companies to review for and they have helped me find some real gems. You can find out more about this book tour and others here.
