This month Mother Goose Time is giving us a chance to explore Winter in the Woods!
We’re looking forward to learning about forest animals, woodlands, winter living, and winter gear.
The kids and I are really looking forward to all the monthly themes for 2016-2017!
Winter in the Woods comes with teacher resources that make planning and executing a fun learning experience achievable and organized.
- Teacher Guide – all the instructions you need for daily activities and projects with tons of book recommendations, play suggestions, and helpful skill building tips.
- Planning Guide – an easy to use week at a glance calendar with a monthly overview of all the projects.
- Gathering List – any unusual items are easy to review on a one page sheet.
- Little Goose – a toddler supplement (additional 18.00) helps adapt the daily activities for my toddler.
Daily Child Projects
“Winter in the Woods” is jam packed with wonderful projects including several invitations to create and make and play activities.
We’ll be creating projects inspired by bears, snowflakes, coats, and a log cabin. We’ll be playing with mittens, snowshoes, and porridge. We also get make a quilt and create some pine cone prints.
Calendar and Daily Activities
Pine cone math, sewing mittens, and a edible cabin are just a few of the fun activities we are looking forward to this month.
The included story of the month is “Timber!,” by Leslie Falconer and illustrated by Chris Lensch.
We also have a whole new list of suggested books and outdoor and STEAM inspired play ideas.
Each month comes with thematic manipulatives. This month, bear counters and numbered nesting cups are included.
These manipulatives are used in several of the Mother Goose Time activities and we are most looking forward to using them for counting bears and measuring snow.
We will also be focusing on the following concepts:
- Color – white
- Shape – square
- Friendship Trait – sharing
- Pattern – ABB
- Letters – W, O, & Z
- Sight Words – in, not, want
- Numbers – 4 and 14
The month’s musical selections are classically inspired.
We’ll be listening and dancing to “Running Reindeer” and “Snowshoe Stomp.”
***The music CD is included with the monthly curriculum purchase. Dance n’Beats is an optional dance and fitness program.
This month also includes a celebration kit for Santa’s Workshop.
We’ll be playing “Train the Reindeer” and creating “Santa Spoon Puppets.”
We will also be learning about “The Story of Mary” with “God Asks Me to Serve Others,” from Experience God (Christian curriculum add-on) and dancing to the music from our “Dancing in the Winter Woods” program from Dance ‘n Beats (dance and fitness program).
The toddler is always included thanks to the Little Goose Program (toddler supplement).
New, this year we will also be adding “More Reading and Writing“and “More Math,” as part of Mother Goose Time’s prek and kindergarten enrichment program.
We hope you’ll join us on our adventures as we learn more about “Winter the Woods!”
