You all know I love picture books.
Reading with my kids is truly one of my greatest pleasures as a mother.
I read so many books that I can guarantee you there is a huge difference in quality among the books that are available to our kids. This is especially true of newer picture books.
“Would a Worm Go On a Walk?” is a great book
So, I’m thrilled to be able to tell you that I found a winner! “Would a Worm Go On a Walk?” is such a great find! The pictures are gorgeous with vivid colors.
This picture book pairs fun, far fetched questions with factoid rich answers. For example:
- “Would a Worm Go On a Walk?”
- NO! No matter how he tries, worms weren’t made for walking, and they don’t EXERCISE.
- “Would a lion be a lifeguard?”
- NO! No way he ever would. Lions don’t like water. That is CLEARLY understood.
- Would a PENGUIN use a parachute if she jumped out of a plane?
- NO! It’s easy to see why. Penguins don’t need parachutes ’cause penguins never FLY.
This book is funny, the pictures are gorgeous, and best of all it delivers a wonderful, powerful, and much needed lesson for our kids on the last pages.
Excerpt from the end of the book
There are lots of things that animals weren’t made to do (worms don’t go for walks, lions don’t swim, penguins don’t fly)………BUT…..
each was formed on purpose,
by a wise Creator God.
He planned their every detail,
both the normal and the odd.
They look just as he wanted,
and they act just as they should.
He made them and he loves them,
and he calls them very good.
But God’s designs weren’t finished.
His special plans weren’t through.
The ANIMALS were just a start.
God’s masterpiece is YOU!

Giraffes are one of my favorites! Have you discovered the book “Giraffes Can’t Dance?” It’s an all time favorite in this house 🙂
